Jeez I go on vacation and come back and the hate is rampant, as a fandom you need to stick together! Be friends! If someone has a different opinion about the show then you, it doesn’t make their opinion any less important than yours. And the amount of times I see people being attacked by Anon’s…….
Erm. This is a touchy subject for a lot of people. I’m a giant Mako fan, and don’t think he deserves a lot of the hate he gets. He made mistakes, yes, but he’s probably the most realistic character on the show, and I think people forget that. People in real life have so many flaws, and good sides too, which often mesh together, as shown in Mako. His character is definitely the most dynamic to me.
Mako is also a surprisingly powerful bender, and when we saw him and Korra at the Equalist rally in the finale, they both used the same exact form to walk on the walls with firebending, making me think he perhaps got some training at one point or another, or at least was able to adapt really readily. My guess is the latter, which means he is also extremely intelligent, something we could’ve inferred already.
Asami… she has been through so much, and Mako handled the end part of their relationship pretty badly, and she knows he loves Korra. You can see it; she knows. Their little nonverbal break up in the finale signals that she acknowledges and forgives all the shit he pulled, to let him be with Korra, which he demonstrated when he offered to go with Korra instead of with Bo and Asami.
Mako has his flaws, and plenty of them, but he is a truly good person, I believe that. He has overcome hardships, and has a good heart. He singlehandedly raised his brother, survived (a feat any child should not have to perform), and tries to care about everyone around him, even to a fault. His flaws stem from those things - he led on Asami and Korra both because he wanted to care about them. He was rude at times, and quite honestly, douchey, but people have their days, you know?
Bryke has crafted characters we care about (Asami and Korra), and we hate to see them hurting or confused, so it makes sense to blame Mako.
His character is my favorite, something that I think is unique around here. To me, he is the most relatable and human out of the characters. Him and Korra, to me, are the most realistic.
These are just opinions and explanations.
tl;dr - Mako has his flaws, but is a good person at the end of the day, in my opinion.
AMEN.
