tags: Mako  Hate  Is  Stupid  LOK  Korra  Fandom

Many parts of the Avatar Fandom based on Tumblr...

Toph: YEAH LET'S BREAK SOME RULES!
Fandom: Lol, that's why I love Toph she's not afraid to do what she needs to do. There was a bigger issue going on and they needed to take care of it. Lol it's great and ironic how she became the chief cop.
Mako: *burns parking tickets and moves on with important things*
Fandom: OMG SEE HOW RECKLESS HE IS WHEN REPUBLIC CITY IS BEING BOMBED? THAT WAS RUDE AND HOW IS HE A COP NOW UGH. THEY SHOULDVE TOTALLY FORCED BOLIN TO BE THE COP BECAUSE THATS MY HEADCANON AND I CANT ACCEPT HIM AS BEING A HAPPY 17 YEAR OLD PROBENDING MENTOR/CAPTAIN FOR A *LITTLE WHILE *BECAUSE THE PLOT IS UNSPECIFIED FOR BOOK 2.
Sokka: *Azula pinned against wall during eclipse, angrily says "WHERE. IS. SUKI?" in her face*
Katara- *blasts soldiers, bloodbends a captain, then holds icy daggers above mother's killer to confront*
Aang- You muzzled Appa? TELL ME WHERE APPA IS! *Avatar State* (Sokka: JUST RUN!)
Fandom: Ahhhh I JUST LOVE THE PASSION AND DETERMINATION
Mako: "*pins up Equalist on wall* Avatar Korra, where are you keeping her?! I'll ask you one more time, WHERE IS SHE?! *puts him down after he says it was Tarrlock, moves on*
Fandom: OMG HE IS SO VIOLENT HOW DO PEOPLE THINK HES A GOOD PERSON HE WAS GOING TO KILL THAT EQUALIST (ITS DEFINITELY CANON BECAUSE I SAID ITS WHAT HE WOULD DO!) HE IS NO BETTER THAN THE GUY THAT KILLED HIS PARENTS OMG STOP OVERREACTING MAKO IT'S JUST KORRA
Katara: "Aang, I'm sorry but right now, I'm just a little confused." *A lot of things are going on right now and she has possibly cared about other characters* Aang- *kisses her*
Fandom: Aaaawwww, it finally happen I'm glad they know how they feel about each other now.
Mako: "I don't know, things are complicated, I'm feeling really confused, and I-" Korra- *Kisses him*
Fandom: OMG MAKO HOW COULD YOU MAKE KORRA UNEXPECTEDLY KISS YOU MID SENTENCE RIGHT NOW WHEN YOU AND HER BOTH KNOW THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO ASAMI, YOU TOTALLY WEREN'T JUST EXPLAINING WHERE YOUR FEELINGS MIGHT ACTUALLY LIE AND WHAT YOU MAY DO ABOUT IT. UGH TOTAL WOMANIZER, CHEATER ETC. WORSE THAN OZAI, DIE SCUM!
Katara, Aang, Toph, Sokka, Zuko, Korra, Tenzin: *is a little louder or more blunt/abrasive during time of stress, frustration or pain* *sometimes says the wrong thing because of not knowing how to say it* *apologizes* *characters learn from it, get over it, and move on*
Fandom: This show...makes all the characters so human and relatable. I just can't. Ahh my babies are sad sometimes and feel alone/sad/confused. They obviously didn't mean something they said and or how loud they said it and everyone is over it now.
Mako: *is a little louder or more blunt/abrasive during time of stress, frustration or pain* *sometimes says the wrong thing because of not knowing how to say it* *apologizes* *characters learn from it, get over it, and move on*
Fandom: HOW IS THIS A KIDS SHOW MAKO IS TOTALLY GOING INTO AN ABUSIVE SPIRAL OMG SO MEAN TO HIS BROTHER AND ASAMI AND KORRA AND UGH TOTALLY DIDN'T SAVE THEIR LIVES AND OR TAKE CARE OF THEM AT SOME POINT WHAT THAT DIDNT HAPPEN! CONTROL YOUR TONE I CANT BELIEVE THIS WORST PERSON EVER DOWN TO HIS SOUL UGH.
:
: The list could go on...mako has made two or three mistakes in (for all we know his entire life) the series and the fandom is as unforgiving and unjust as Ozai when it comes to punishing him 20fold for minor mistakes. I really don't even >.>
ithinkweweremeantforeachother: that and Mako is also a teenager so...while his mistakes are just that - mistakes - he shouldn't be so villainized just for being a confused teenager like the rest of us
bikeboynate: AMEN!

Jeez I go on vacation and come back and the hate is rampant, as a fandom you need to stick together! Be friends! If someone has a different opinion about the show then you, it doesn’t make their opinion any less important than yours. And the amount of times I see people being attacked by Anon’s…….

Erm. This is a touchy subject for a lot of people. I’m a giant Mako fan, and don’t think he deserves a lot of the hate he gets. He made mistakes, yes, but he’s probably the most realistic character on the show, and I think people forget that. People in real life have so many flaws, and good sides too, which often mesh together, as shown in Mako. His character is definitely the most dynamic to me.

Mako is also a surprisingly powerful bender, and when we saw him and Korra at the Equalist rally in the finale, they both used the same exact form to walk on the walls with firebending, making me think he perhaps got some training at one point or another, or at least was able to adapt really readily. My guess is the latter, which means he is also extremely intelligent, something we could’ve inferred already.

Asami… she has been through so much, and Mako handled the end part of their relationship pretty badly, and she knows he loves Korra. You can see it; she knows. Their little nonverbal break up in the finale signals that she acknowledges and forgives all the shit he pulled, to let him be with Korra, which he demonstrated when he offered to go with Korra instead of with Bo and Asami.

Mako has his flaws, and plenty of them, but he is a truly good person, I believe that. He has overcome hardships, and has a good heart. He singlehandedly raised his brother, survived (a feat any child should not have to perform), and tries to care about everyone around him, even to a fault. His flaws stem from those things - he led on Asami and Korra both because he wanted to care about them. He was rude at times, and quite honestly, douchey, but people have their days, you know?

Bryke has crafted characters we care about (Asami and Korra), and we hate to see them hurting or confused, so it makes sense to blame Mako.

His character is my favorite, something that I think is unique around here. To me, he is the most relatable and human out of the characters. Him and Korra, to me, are the most realistic.

These are just opinions and explanations.

tl;dr - Mako has his flaws, but is a good person at the end of the day, in my opinion.

AMEN.
